Winter in Michigan

5 Reasons to Ski Nubs Nob in Beautiful Northern Michigan

  1. Nubs Nob is known for having the Best Snow is the Midwest. They have an incredible team of groomers/snowmakers that work to keep as many trails open as possible. With 248 acres of skiable terrain, they may not be the the largest in Northern Michigan but they do have snow guns covering 97% of their skiable terrain. Gladed tree runs are the only areas not covered by snow guns allowing Nubs to be one of the first resorts to open and close every season in the lower peninsula. 2. Free Beginner Area! Yes, I said FREE. A lot of resorts used to offer this to their guests but have recently done away with it. While all my kids are beyond the beginner area, my 4 year old and I spent the whole afternoon over there “PLAYING” the other day and I will absolutely cherish those memories. This is also a great spot to teach kids how to use the chair lift since its hit a little lower and the are happy to slow it down for you. Whether you’re 4 or 40, the terrain park off the free purple chair is a good time! I would highly recommend checking this area out if you have newbies in your group or if you’re arriving from out of town with kids later in the evening, this would be a good way to get some time in with out breaking the bank. Honestly, if we lived in the area, what a perfect date night! Let the kids hit the terrain park, while mom and dad grab a cocktail in the lodge. 3. A little SOMETHING for EVERYONE! Nubs offer 58 runs with 21 of them being blue or intermediate runs and the rest are Black or Green for Advanced and Beginners. We have a family of 5 we can all ride the same lift and find something we are all comfortable skiing down. I am perfectly happy skiing greens and the occasional blue with little mitten while the older boys like to ski blues and hit a couple blacks with Mr.Mitten. All the boys love the terrain park and what’s great is that Nubs has two options. They have a BIG terrain park more advanced skiers and riders as well as the smaller one in the beginner area for younger or less adventurous folk like myself 🙂

4. Not only do they offer a variety of runs, but they also offer 2 lodges with arguably the best food! Then main lodge is centrally located with an awesome selection of food & beverages. Big Mitten is somewhat of a grilled cheese connoisseur, plus he’s super picky & he gives the food at Nubs 5 Stars! You have no idea how strong of an endorsement this is lol. They definitely have the biggest cafeteria selection of any resort we’ve been to in Michigan plus they have an adults only bar with live music and an outdoor lounging area where you can have a true Apres experience. The other lodge is located off of Pintail Peak. They have a smaller selection of food and beverages but still a great place to get warm, meet up with friends and use the restroom. Beware it gets a little windy back there, but great skiing!

5. Two words, NUBS CUBS! Friends of ours introduced us to Nubs Cubs a few years ago when Little Mitten was just 18 months. He was skiing, but he couldn’t make it long especially when it was really cold outside. We decided to check it out and I remember being so impressed with how kind everyone was and how well organized the little daycare was ran. Fast forward three years, and little mitten was pretty tired out from all the late nights during the holidays and he pretty much checked himself into Nubs Cubs. We just walked in and asked if they had an open spot and they got him signed right in. He only stayed for about an hour but it was just the break he needed to get re-energized. I can’t express enough how impressed I am by their staff. They feed the kids lunch, let them play, do quiet time, & they even take infants. You can tell they truly ENJOY working there. It was $20 well spent! You can learn more about Nubs Cubs here https://www.nubsnob.com/nubs-cubs-daycare/

I hope you get the opportunity to ski Nubs, there really is something special about it. Don’t forget to check out the cute little store on your way in/out of the main lodge. Let me tell you, they pack some really great stuff into that little storefront. They are known for having a great selection of beanies and they definitely raised the bar on their sweatshirt & hoodie game this year but they also have some really quality brands like Krimson Klover and Nils for base layers and ski wear.
